Kalk Bay Reef sits on the same bay as the learners' beach and offers something else entirely: left and right reefs on a south-easterly swell with a west-north-westerly offshore.
It rarely breaks. June, its best month, is clean one day out of thirty and too small for twenty-eight, and that is the best it does. A spot to check on the way past, not one to build a week around.
Submerged rocks are the hazard, and they are the reason this is not where beginners overflow to when Muizenberg is full. It is often busy when it does work, which on a wave this rare follows.
