Check availabilityDreamsea has moved into a Canarian house built in 1902, on the coast road at El Pagador, a hamlet of Moya set above the ocean on the north coast. Restored in 2024, it kept its white walls, wooden windows and old patterned tiles. The rooms open onto a courtyard of palms round a stone fountain, where the house restaurant serves from morning to night. Upstairs, a roof terrace with curtained daybeds looks over the village rooftops to the sea, and a pool faces the volcanic hills. There is no shared room: every suite has its own bathroom. Under ten minutes' walk away are natural rock pools and beaches of black sand and pebbles.
Lessons are at La Cícer, the sand end of Las Canteras, the city beach of Las Palmas, or at La Laja, the city's other beach. Two hours in the water in a group, one instructor to eight students, soft-top, leash and rash vest provided. On an ordinary day La Cícer is a school beach: sand underfoot, lefts and rights at any tide, and groups from all over the city sharing the water. When a north-westerly swell lines up with an offshore wind, the same beach sorts itself into proper peeling waves, and December is when that happens most: about four days in a week. After the lesson the soft-tops are yours to take back out, and hard boards are for rent when you are ready for the next step.
The wave is in the city and the house is not, and that is the trade it offers. In Las Palmas you sleep between the promenade and the traffic; here you sleep in the quiet above the sea, and the shuttle does the driving on lesson days, free: allow half an hour to the beach. On days off, the team runs picnics and hikes into the ravines and mountains of the north, which the capital's beaches never show you.
Evenings happen at the house. Dinner is chosen from the menu, starter, main and dessert, seasonal cooking with vegetarian and vegan options, under the courtyard palms. Moya is a quiet town; for a night out it is Las Palmas, half an hour down the road. Most guests are between 20 and 40. Right for a couple, a group of friends or a family who want to learn to surf from a beautiful, quiet house rather than a dorm bed in town.

What is within reach of the camp.
Yes. Lessons are on the sand at La Cícer, where the island learns, on a soft-top with leash and rash vest provided. Groups run up to eight students per instructor, and how they split by level is not stated, so if you already surf, ask before you book.
Not to surf: the shuttle runs from the house to the lesson beach on every surf day, at no charge. For everything else, days off, evenings in Las Palmas or a tour of the island, the house itself suggests hiring a car.
The wetsuit, €15 to hire, and the water sits around 18 °C in winter. A hard board, at €25. Dinner on arrival day and lunches; guests get 10% off at the house restaurant. And the airport transfer: €65 each way for one or two, €75 for three or four.
Because it is outside the wave season. On Gran Canaria's north coast the swell comes from October to March; in summer it thins out and lessons work with whatever small waves are left. For a first go on a board, summer is enough. To make progress, come between October and March.
Packages include Dreamsea's cancellation insurance, which covers cancelling before arrival and, during the stay, illness or injury. Without it, you get a full refund up to two months before arrival, then less and less, and nothing in the final two weeks.
