El Hierro is a reef on the north track west of Majanicho, also called the Derecha de los Alemanes, and it shares only a name with the westernmost island of the archipelago. It is a right over rock, on a north-north-westerly swell with a southerly offshore, and it is consistent all winter.
December is its best month: ten clean days out of thirty, nineteen blown out, one or two too small. That is Famara's December to the day, across the strait. The swell is nearly always there, and the wind takes two days in three.
It is sometimes crowded, by people who live along the track, and the rocks sit close under a fast take-off. It is a wave for advanced surfers, on the mornings the wind drops or goes south: come with a few winters behind you, and watch a set before paddling out.

A month in figures
In December, the month the forecast guides single out for this coast:
Shares of the month, from the published forecast statistics. The model reads a grid, so neighbouring breaks share a figure: this describes a stretch of coast, not this wave on its own. The other eleven months are not published.
