Majanicho

Majanicho

A reef and point on the north track, lefts and rights in front of a hamlet. The step above El Cotillo, when the wind allows it.

Majanicho is a hamlet of a few houses on the dirt track between Corralejo and El Cotillo, and the wave is the reef and point in front of it: lefts and rights over rock, on a northerly swell with a southerly offshore, at any tide.

The wind is its problem. October, its best month, gives four or five clean days out of thirty, twenty-one blown out and four too small, or about one session in a week. The north and north-east winds that leave El Cotillo alone blow straight in here, and from May to September it is almost never clean.

When it is on it is often crowded, with rocks under the take-off. It is the wave to try once you are turning on green faces at El Cotillo: intermediate and up, on a morning the wind has gone south.

A month in figures

In October, the month the forecast guides single out for this coast:

  • 15%Clean and surfable
  • 71%Blown out
  • 14%Too small

Shares of the month, from the published forecast statistics. The model reads a grid, so neighbouring breaks share a figure: this describes a stretch of coast, not this wave on its own. The other eleven months are not published.
