October is where the north-west groundswell comes back properly. The Atlantic lows re-form and start sending long-period swell down to the islands, and the reefs on the north shore of Fuerteventura get the twelve seconds they have been waiting for since March. A rideable swell runs twenty-five days out of thirty, the same as the deep winter months.
The difference from January is everything around it. The alisios are done, the water is still at 23°C, its yearly high, and the beaches emptied in September and have not filled again. You get the season without the winter: shorty rather than a 3/2, and a car park rather than a queue. It is the month to come if you want the reefs at their best value.
