July is the bottom of the year. The share of days carrying a rideable swell drops to twelve days out of thirty, the lowest of the year, and the alisios are at their most reliable, which means the days that do have swell are still on the clock: clean at seven, unusable by eleven.
What is left is a warm, small, sand-bottomed coast with a lot of people on it. The islands are in European high season and the beaches show it. If you are here anyway, the north shore of Fuerteventura still breaks at El Cotillo most mornings, and Lanzarote's Famara is the other reliable option. The water is at 22°C and a shorty is enough.
