November is where the north Atlantic is at its most productive for these islands. The swells arrive with size and with period, so everything on the north shore is in play at once: the sand from Corralejo to El Cotillo, the reefs above it at Rocky Point, El Hierro, Generosa and The Bubble, and Lanzarote's slabs at El Quemao and San Juan.
The water is still at 22°C, which is remarkable for the amount of swell in the water and is the reason people fly here rather than to Portugal in November. Booties for the reef, a 3/2 for everything. The islands are between the summer holidays and the Christmas rush, so the line-ups are busy with people who came for this rather than crowded with everybody.
