El Confital

El Confital

A fast right over rock under La Isleta, at the north end of Las Canteras. Very consistent, and full when it works.

El Confital is a right over rock under the volcanic headland of La Isleta, at the northern end of the bay that Las Canteras curves along. It takes a westerly swell with an easterly offshore, works at every stage of the tide, and it is very consistent through the winter.

January is its month: twelve clean days out of thirty, four blown out, fourteen too small. On the days it is on, the right is shallow and fast, and it is a wave for advanced surfers and above.

It is often crowded, by the people who live five minutes away and surf it every good morning. Rocks line the take-off and the inside. If you are not sure whether you belong out there, the answer is to watch a set from the shore first: the wave tells you quickly.

A month in figures

In January, the month the forecast guides single out for this coast:

  • 39%Clean and surfable
  • 15%Blown out
  • 46%Too small

Shares of the month, from the published forecast statistics. The model reads a grid, so neighbouring breaks share a figure: this describes a stretch of coast, not this wave on its own. The other eleven months are not published.
