La Nord is the beach at the northern end of Hossegor, and it is the workable half of a town famous for an unworkable wave. Lefts and rights over sand, on a west-north-westerly swell with an east-south-easterly offshore, and good at all stages of the tide.
It works all year, and October bears that out with the strongest figures on this coast: fifteen clean days out of thirty, fourteen blown out, one or two too small. Swell is never the question here; the wind decides.
It is also rarely crowded, which next to La Graviere is the surprise. For an intermediate who wants the Landes without the barrel, this is the address: the same swell, the same sand, one notch down in violence.
