Foz do Lizandro is where the Lizandro river meets the sea, south of Ericeira, and it is the gentlest wave in the reserve. The river-mouth waves are all lefts, on a southwest swell with an easterly offshore, and it steepens at high tide.
It is the most approachable break on this coast, which is why a first week in Ericeira happens on this beach rather than at Coxos twenty minutes north. December gives five clean days out of thirty, five blown out, twenty too small: plenty of small days, which is exactly what learning needs.
The trade-off is the river. The currents are real, and the entry at the left of the beach is where they bite. A river mouth is gentle on the wave and unforgiving on the swim, which is the reason to be here with a school.
