Arrieta is the reef on the north-east corner of the island, and it answers one specific question: what to do when Famara is flat.
It takes a northerly swell with a west-north-westerly offshore, a different window from Famara's, which is the point of driving over. The two rarely line up, though: it does not work often, summer is flat, and even November, its best month, gives only three clean days out of thirty, ten blown out, seventeen too small.
The bottom is rock, and it fills up fast when it does deliver, which on a wave this rare follows. This is a spot to go and look at on a morning the beach has nothing, not a spot to plan around.
