April is outside the October to March season and still gets waves, in a different rhythm. The lows that queued up all winter now come with gaps between them, so a week here can hold three good sessions or one, and there is no way to know which when you book.
The compensation is time. Seventeen hours of daylight means nothing is missed for want of it, and you can wait out a windy morning instead of writing off the day. The trap is that the light suggests spring and the sea does not follow: the water is still at 6°C, exactly as cold as January, and the wetsuit is the same. That gap between how it looks and how it feels catches more people out in April than in any other month.
