June is also the only month with a published figure behind it. Þorlákshöfn, on the south coast, is clean and rideable eleven days out of thirty in June, blown out thirteen, too small the other six. That is the best month of the year, which tells you how much of Icelandic surfing is spent looking at wind.
What June gives you in exchange is that nothing has to be scheduled. The sun barely sets, so a session at ten in the evening is normal and the following morning is still available: you are not choosing between windows, you are waiting for one. The water reaches 10°C, the warmest of the first half of the year. What June does not deliver is size, and the south-west can stay flat for a week at a time.
