Panoramas

Panoramas

Sand and reef at the south end of the village, breaking both ways. Fast and sectiony at low tide, easier as the water fills in.

Panoramas is the south end of the village, the last inside section of the same point that makes Anchor Point, though the two do not connect. Sand at the beach end, reef further out, and it breaks both left and right.

Best around low tide, on a northwest swell with an east-northeasterly offshore. January gives fourteen clean days out of thirty, twelve blown out, four too small. Summer is mostly flat.

On a small day it looks like a beginner wave, and that is the mistake: the entry is over rocks at low tide, which is exactly when it is good. Rips and stone, and plenty of company. An intermediate has a fine week here; a beginner loses one.

A month in figures

In January, the month the forecast guides single out for this coast:

  • 46%Clean and surfable
  • 41%Blown out
  • 13%Too small

Shares of the month, from the published forecast statistics. The model reads a grid, so neighbouring breaks share a figure: this describes a stretch of coast, not this wave on its own. The other eleven months are not published.

What to watch for

  • Rips and undertow
  • Rocks

Technical figures read off published surf guides. Where two disagree, the sheet says so.
