October is the end of the swell half of the year. The Southern Ocean is winding down, the pulses arrive further apart, and the rain is still heavy through most of the month before it breaks at the end.
Which makes this the month with the least to recommend it and the most space in which to have it. Nothing here is ever crowded, and October is when a point that runs three weeks out of four in January has four people on it on a good day.
What it does have is the turn. The last week or two of October is when the trade winds start reasserting themselves, and the difference between a mid-October morning and a mid-November one is the difference between Panama's two years.
