August holds the southern season. The swell keeps arriving, the mornings keep being the usable part of the day, and nothing about the pattern has changed since June.
It is a good month to say what the numbers here do and do not mean. Playa Venao's twenty-six clean days out of thirty and Santa Catalina's twenty-three are the highest clean-day figures on this coast outside Nicaragua, and both belong to December and January. They measure how often the wind was offshore. They do not count the days there was something worth surfing, and the two are not the same question on a coast whose swell season is the other half of the year.
Put the two halves together and Panama's honest offer is this: the dry season gives you clean and small, the wet season gives you size and takes the grooming back, and August is deep in the second.
