June sits between two things that both arrive in July. The nortada is blowing but not yet every day and not yet all afternoon, and the crowds that fill this coast from the first week of July are still at home. It is the last quiet month of the year on this coast, and that is the whole case for it.
The surf is summer surf: small, short-period, and best in the morning. What makes June better than July is not the waves, it is that you can still find a beach to yourself at Peniche or Ericeira and that a mid-afternoon session is occasionally still on. The water has reached 17°C, warm enough for a 3/2 without argument.
