November is the most dependable month of the northern Spanish year. The lows arrive without gaps, the swell holds in the north-west quadrant, and there is no longer any question of waiting a week for something to happen.
It is also when Mundaka becomes itself. The bar there is built by the Oka estuary, and it needs a run of autumn swell to shape before the wave is the wave: by November it has had September and October to do that, and the left runs the length of it. That the bank is made rather than given is not a detail. In 2003 a dredging operation took more than two hundred thousand cubic metres of sand out of the channel and the wave stopped breaking for three years, which is why anybody who has surfed it talks about the sand before they talk about the wave.
The water is down to 16°C and the beaches are empty. A 4/3 from here on.
