February holds January's swell and loses its audience. The lows keep coming from the north-west, and what changes is where it is worth being: everybody who travels to northern Spain in winter goes to Mundaka, so the beaches and points on either side take the same swell with a fraction of the people on them.
That is a real argument rather than a consolation. The Basque coast is a chain of beaches, river mouths and points inside forty kilometres, and they need the same north-westerly swell and the same southerly wind. On any February morning that works for the famous wave, four or five others are working too, and nobody is counting the surfers on them.
The sea bottoms out at 12°C around the end of the month, six weeks after the air. A 4/3 with boots is the minimum; a hood turns two hours into three.
