March closes the winter. The lows still cross the Atlantic but they track further north as the month goes on, and a coast that only takes swell from the north-west quadrant feels that immediately: the gaps between swells stretch from days to a week.
What March gives back is light. Sunset moves past eight by the end of the month, which on this coast means a session before work and another after it, and that is the difference between a week that fits around a forecast and one that has to be built around it.
The water is still at its winter figure of 13°C. Nothing here warms until May, whatever the hillsides above the beach are doing.
