November is April in reverse. The Southern Hemisphere is winding down, so the swell that ran all season arrives less often, and by the last two weeks the north-east trades are re-establishing themselves and the coast starts behaving like January again.

That is a middling month on paper and a genuinely mixed one in practice: the first half can still deliver a proper south-west swell, and the second half is clean, small and offshore. The rain stops before the month does. The water is at 28°C. On the Caribbean side the opposite is happening, and December to March is that coast's season.

Learning in November

Improving week by week. By the end of November the small clean dry-season conditions are back and the beaches are quiet before Christmas.

Where a beginner goes in November

These spots are reachable all year. What the month changes is the size of the waves, not the access.

For an experienced surfer

  • Surf : Good

A gamble on timing. Early November can still be the season; late November is a different trip entirely.

Where these figures come from

Air, rain and sunshine: WMO / NOAA 1991-2020 normals for Agadir Al Massira, a station some twenty kilometres inland and so a little warmer than the coast in summer. Swell, period and share of workable wind: Swell Archive and surf-forecast. Water temperature: seatemperature.org and weather-and-climate. Crowds and prices are an editorial judgement, not a measurement.
