April is the month the coast changes what it is doing. The dominant swell direction shifts from north-east round to south and south-west, which is the direction the Tola reefs face and were shaped by, and the first Southern Hemisphere groundswells of the year start arriving.
Everything else follows. The rain begins to return, which is what brings the swell rather than what spoils it, and the lake wind keeps doing what it does all year. The water climbs from February's 25°C to 27°C. April is the least crowded month of the season, because the season is only a few weeks old and most people book by the calendar rather than by the swell.
