October closes the run that opened in April. The south-west groundswell is still arriving, less often than in August, and the offshore share reaches its yearly high of twelve days out of thirty as the trades settle back over the lake.
It is also the last of the heavy rain, and the wettest end of the green season. Roads on the Tola coast are at their worst, which matters here because the good reefs are reached by dirt track. The compensation is that the coast is empty and cheap and the swell has not gone yet. The water is at 29°C. From November the pattern flips and the small dry season starts.
