Banana Surf Camp

The camp

Iflas Kiyas, known to everybody as Ibu, opened Banana in 2014, and his surf shop is still on Main Street with its board-repair workshop. The house is just off the street, twenty metres from the beach: seven air-conditioned doubles with hot water, a four-bed dorm, a pool, a corner with weights, and bikes.

Main Point and Baby Point are out the front, and when the group heads further, down the track to Peanut Farm or out to Elephant Rock, the tuk-tuk is covered. Two sessions a day, an hour and a half in the morning and the same in the afternoon, with board and rash vest supplied. The Main Point is the long right from every photograph, over coral and crowded from seven in the morning in August. Peanut Farm gives two good days a week in August with nobody on it, and Elephant Rock, the furthest south of the points, will take a beginner.

Banana does not feed you every night, and means not to. Three dinners a week, mostly vegetarian, and the rest left open so you go out. The house sends its guests to Salty Swamis and Emily's, and everything is on foot from the middle of town.

The season is on the website: 1 May to 25 October 2026. Outside those dates the house sells nothing, and the south coast takes over. Banana suits somebody who wants a lot of surf and dinner out, in the thick of Main Street.
