August is the peak of the rains and the peak of the warmth, and the south shore keeps producing the small swell it has produced since May.
Two things make it worth naming rather than skipping. The water is near its annual high, which is the whole reason the summer half of the Senegalese year exists for learners. And the coast is at its emptiest: the European season has not started and the Dakar crowd is inland or away.
The surf itself has not changed since July. Yoff on sand, Ouakam when the south fills in, and nothing at all on the north shore.
