August holds the season. The southern systems are still producing, the point is still working, and the weather is dry and steady.
It is also the month to answer the question the figures raise. Tofinho very rarely has anybody on it, and for the best wave in a country that is unusual enough to need explaining. It is not the wave. It is that the same swell, generated in the same place, reaches South Africa unfiltered, one country to the south, on a coast with better roads, more breaks and a surf industry built around them. The traveller heading up this coast has already found what they came for before they reach the border, and Tofo is a further nine hours by road beyond it.
That distance is the whole product here. It costs you a fallback coast when the wind is wrong, and it buys you a point break with four people on it in the middle of the season.
