March ends the Atlantic winter. The lows are further apart, the swells arrive with days between them, and the country page's useful season closes at the end of the month.
The sea is six weeks behind all of that. It sits at 8°C, barely off February's floor, and it will not move properly until May. March is the month people misjudge here, because the walk out to Rhossili is pleasant in a jumper and the water underneath is still midwinter.
What March does give back is light and space. Sunset moves past six, then past seven with the clocks, and a Saturday suddenly has two tides in it instead of one. On a coast where the whole thing is being at the right beach when the wind allows it, that second look is worth more than a degree of water.
