June is the bottom of the swell year. 0.7 m at 8 seconds, the annual minimum alongside July, and the wind is workable only thirteen days out of thirty. For an experienced surfer who came for the points, the month rates as off season, and that is not a stylistic hedge.

What June has going for it is three figures: 0.8 mm of rain across the whole month, air at 26 °C, water at 20 °C. Sun eases slightly to 8.9 hours a day, still above every winter month. Crowds and prices are still low, because European school holidays have not started, and that is the whole difference between June and July.

It is the last quiet month before two busy ones.

Learning in June

For learning : Very good

June is a good month to learn in, as long as you know what you are buying. The waves are small and constant over sand, 20 °C water is a shorty, and there is nobody about. What you will not get is a wave with enough push to progress quickly once you are standing. Banana Beach and Devil's Rock are enough for a first week; past that, Imsouane bay is the one place where a wave still lasts long enough to work on.

For an experienced surfer

At 0.7 m there is no session to go and find on the points. An experienced surfer who comes in June comes for something else: 20 °C water, an empty line-up, and possibly a longboard. Imsouane bay is the only wave on this coast still worth it at that size, because its length makes up for the lack of power.
